Invest in our planet. That is the theme for Earth Day 2023.

Earth Day is an event that takes place every year on April 22 that demonstrates support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, Earth Day now includes a wide range of events coordinated by EarthDay.org

Here are the six ways to do Earth Day this year. The first is to increase your climate literacy and promote the education of climate literacy for students. Second, end plastics. Plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental problems facing us. Third, donate as little as one dollar to plant a tree.

Next, use your voting power to protect our environment. Then, join a global cleanup campaign. Find a local event to clean up your communities, beaches, rivers, lakes, trails, and parks. Finally, shop sustainable fashion. Fight fast fashion by shopping secondhand or purchasing from eco-friendly stores and shops.

These are the six ways being focused on this year for Earth Day 2023. We encourage all of our residents to participate in Earth Day in as many ways as possible. Also, The Clark urges our community to continue their Earth Day activities all year long.

For example, participate in a community cleanup every month, use only reusable water bottles, or shop at sustainable brands as often as possible.

It’s the most romantic day of the year, Clark residents! But, seriously, no pressure.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be the end-all-be-all of romance. It can be simply a great day to enjoy with those you love. Simply spending quality time and having fun with a loved one in our cozy community room will have you feeling the love. There are plenty of ways to show your love this Valentine’s Day.

While gifts are a traditional part of the holiday, they don’t have to be budget-breaking. Sure, places like Target overflow with adorably-themed pillows, candles, wreaths, and the works. But what could be better than creating something with your own two hands?

Make a DIY Etched Wine Glass: Surprise your sweetheart with a home-cooked meal and a personalized etched wine glass, which is actually much easier to make than it seems!

Heart-Shaped Elbow Patch: Wear your heart on your sleeve, literally. Make it yourself or for your Valentine, using an old sweater or two and scrap fabric (or even paper)!

Lipstick Art: All you need is a piece of white card stock and shades of lipstick for this fun-themed wall art.

Valentine’s Day is all about love. Spend the day in Arlington, VA, or cuddle inside, as long as you are surrounded by love then there’s no way to go wrong.

Thanksgiving is a national United States holiday that takes place every third Thursday of November, this year on November 24th.

The first Thanksgiving dates back to 1621, when the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn feast. Then, for more than two centuries, Thanksgiving was celebrated on different days by the US colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

According to the National Turkey Federation, 90% of American households eat turkey for Thanksgiving- whether it be roasted, baked, or deep-fried. Other traditional foods include stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.

Parades have also become a common aspect of the holiday. Presented by Macy’s department store since 1924, New York City’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is the largest and most famous, attracting up to 3 million in-person spectators along its 2.5-mile route and drawing an enormous television viewing crowd.

As in the name, Thanksgiving is dedicated to giving thanks. So, this year take an extra moment to figure out what you are most grateful for.

Albi specializes in Levantine cuisine with a focus on seasonal ingredients. That’s most apparent when you sit down for its tasting menu entitled “sofra.” It’s billed as a “semi-improvisational tasting menu” that changes constantly to reflect the season and the creativity of the chef. Of course, you’re always welcome to sit down at the bar for wine and dishes a la carte, but you’ll miss out on the full sofra experience!

For the summer months, the first course consists of your choice of snacks like the lamb meat pie (sfeeha) the smoked swordfish (dolma), or the kibbeh naya, a creation of puffed bulgar and smoked tomato with lettuce and toum. Then for the second course, decide what you want atop fresh pita bread. Maybe it’s the sweet corn hummus, but you could also choose burnt eggplant baba ganoush or embered chanterelle hummus. Then devour a main course of coal-fired scallops followed by barbecued lamb kabobs or chermoula swordfish shish kabobs. Finally, savor the brown butter knafeh with pistachio, attar syrup, and yogurt sorbet. Add on handpicked pours of wine for an additional fee.

Thanksgiving is all about taking a moment to reflect upon what you’re grateful for. It might be something as simple as time with friends and family or as fundamental as food and shelter. Thanksgiving is also a good time to remember that not everyone has access to the things they need in order to meet their basic needs and to consider how you can contribute to improving things for these neighbors. That’s where the Arlington Turkey Trot comes in.

Every year on Thanksgiving morning, hundreds of runners and walkers come together to raise funds for local nonprofits that provide food, shelter, and resources to community members and families in need. You can be part of that mission this year when you sign up for the fun 5K run and walk ($50) or by simply providing a donation to the cause. If you opt to participate, lace up your running sneakers and come to Christ Church in Arlington to grab your packet in the days before Thanksgiving or just before 8 a.m. on November 24th. That’s when the race kicks off!

Let’s cut to the chase, Halloween is peaking its head around the corner. Well, it’s a headless horseman head! With that, there is nothing more exciting than decorating for Halloween. Here are some DIY decorations you can make to get in the spooky spirit!

Delightful Devilish Handsoap- Buy some hand soap from the Dollar Store, and fill it with a few plastic spiders or festive confetti for an ominous touch.

Make A Pumpkin Vase- Turn your pumpkin into a vase for a Halloween-chic centerpiece.

Whip Up A Scary Dessert- Your desserts can double as decor, too. Try making some Halloween dirt cups; chocolate pudding topped with Oreos, chocolate chips, and Belvita cookies.

Send Test Tubes Invitations- Don't limit Halloween party decor to the big event itself. Make sure your invitations are just as spirited and fun.

Make A Googly Eye Wreath- You'll need a lot of ping pong balls, but the scary mass of watching eyes will be so worth it.

Paper Bats- Frame a doorway with flying paper bats for a super simple but fun Halloween vibe at home.

Decorate your entire space with these terrifyingly terrific DIYs!

The pizzas at Boogy & Peel are designed to be shared, but no one will judge you if you decide to save one all for yourself. That’s because they’re creative and delicious. Even the “basic” marinara pizza is something special. It starts with a crispy 13-inch crust, upon which the chef layers red sauce, garlic confit, and the house’s own sub sauce. No cheese necessary.

Prefer something with a little more oomph? The Macha ‘Roni flaunts layers of classic red sauce and fresh cheese plus pepperoni, Saul’s salsa macha, basil, and a drizzle of honey. It’s a savory-sweet creation that will surprise and tantalize your taste buds. The same is true of The Kelly Ruben, which takes the ingredients of a Reuben sandwich (think pastrami, gruyere, and sauerkraut) and piles them atop a pie. Complement your chosen pie with sides such as asparagus and farro tossed with pickled cranberries and asiago cheese or wings smothered with Alabama barbecue sauce. And don’t forget dessert! The chocolate soft-serve flecked with pretzels, potato chips, and peanuts is a customer favorite.

If you switch on classic hip-hop the moment you get into the car or start your work-from-home-day, then you’re the exact audience for the Hip Hop Halloween Bar Crawl. This bar crawl draws DJs who spin old-school hip-hop at different bars along U Street all day (and night) long on October 29th.

Each bar boasts its own hip-hop theme, so belt out different hits depending on that DJ’s chosen genre. But before you actually head to U Street, don your most creative Halloween costume for a chance to win cash prizes throughout the day. Even the uncostumed can score drink specials, door prizes, and bar crawl swag as long as they have a wristband on hand ($10+). Although the exact roster of bars has yet to be announced, the crawl always consists of at least six different establishments all within walking distance of each other along U Street. That means six totally different sets spun by some of the city’s hottest DJs! So you may want to start planning your topical hip-hop artist costume ASAP if you’re serious about bringing home the gold from the costume contest.
